“I started ONLY when I was 22, and I was always drawn to the idea of having a creative endeavor that would double as a business” says Micah Belamarich, founder of streetwear imprint ONLY NY. Coupling his business-driven mindset with a childhood growing up in both the city and country, ONLY soon became a go-to mainstay in streetwear shortly after its inception in 1997, and much of it has Micah’s unique creative direction to thank for. While heavily inspired by the grittiness of New York’s street culture, Micha’s artwork is fun and carefree, often enlisting various typography fonts, simple caricatures, and ’90s athletic references in its rendition. In this segment of Pen & Paper, Micha opens up his sketch book to show us a slew of illustrations, some of which consist of blueprint logo ideas for his label. With ONLY representing “the hood to Park Ave. and everything in between” we also see Micha’s interpretation of New York’s landscape followed by a personal HYPEBEAST shout-out. Enjoy our latest Pen & Paper and follow Micah Belamarich on Instagram to stay updated with the Harlem-based artist and designer.
